Hannah, John A., 1902-1991
During his presidency (1941-1969), John Hannah transformed a regional agricultural college into Michigan State University, a globally engaged university with expertise in an enormous range of fields of study. Hannah drew heavily on federal support in this process, and the university worked closely with the federal government on a range of development projects. At the end of his term, Hannah drew increasing criticism for his close ties to the federal government and his top-down management style. After retiring from the university, Hannah served as the head of USAID.214 Records
